Pilated Woodpecker ~ Clouds ~ One Dish Meat/Rice/Gravy Conglomeration ~ Grandparents Day

Good 44º morning. Only 91º yesterday and a cooling "trend" has officially started. Whatever ....

For the last couple of days the Pilated Woodpecker has been noisy out in the garden.... These woodpeckers are large, usually up to 18" from head to tail, about the size of a crow. Their range is mostly forested ...

They eat insects, nuts, and berries and even poison ivy berries. He hangs out in my garden because of the grape vines... Their sound is almost like a laugh.... sounds like you are deep in the jungle.... cool.

It was warm but we had clouds yesterday...

Dinner was a concoction... you know my proclivity for one dish meals....

I started with some left-over rice quinoa blend, canned roast beef, tomato, garlic, bell pepper, mushrooms, and beef broth.

I made a roux of butter, olive oil, and flour. Then added the juice from the canned meat and some beef broth to make a gravy. I sauteéd the rice mixture in olive oil to give it a bit of a 'crunch' and added in the tomato. Reconstituted the garlic slices. Everything went into the big pan with the gravy and
meat.

I found some cheese rolls in the freezer and warmed and cut them for the base of the meat/gravy/veggie/rice conglomeration..

Gotta say............ it was REALLY GOOD!!!! I saved a bit in the bottom and Harley thoroughly enjoyed it too.

I like him (and his politics!) ... with wife Jackie.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

I probably prefer Adam Sandler's political philosophy to his movies.

Say hi to "Woody" for us):-

Figures the cooling trend is on its way. So is the last of the air conditioner parts. 2013 is going to be more comfortable than much of 2012.

Sue,

I learned not long ago about Adam Sandler's politics and I must say I was pleasantly surprised! You don't find many in Hollyweird who are conservtive but I hear tell more and morw are coming out of the shadows! Hell, if Clint Eastwood and Jon Voight can do it, why not?? :):)

Oh your din din made my mouth water! I too like one dish meals. You are an amazing chef gf!!

Hugs, Trisha

Thanks T !! I LOVE cooking and hate doing dishes, so the one-pot, one-dish meals are my fav.

Re Sandler and the other conservatives in Hollyweird, there just aren't enough of them!!! xo
