Andy & Linda ~ Jeannie ~ Jasper ~ TV Dinner

Good 47º morning. Stayed nice yesterday and just got warm in the late afternoon when the sun was on the front of the house. It's only supposed to be in the high 70º's today and climb back to the 100º range by Thursday. Joy.

I had a great, but too short, visit yesterday with Linda and Andy. Andy was in the Marines with Jerry. Linda and I have become the closest of friends. They were on their way from north of Sacramento up to Washington. We had a glass of wine and then they headed out. Linda promises to return later in the Fall so we can visit extra long! Bruiser greeted Andy and was happy to have him pet him and rub his tummy!

Andy has a shop in Woodland, Ca. and he feeds and is friends with the feral cats there. They know.

I'm sad, I haven't seen the hens and chicks lately. The Tom have not been around either. I think it has to do with that bobcat taking up residence in this area. They must have relocated.   :o(    The deer have been sparce too, but did see 'mom' and two of her young fawns yesterday.

Today is a very special birthday, my BFF Jeannie is turning 39 again! LOL. HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEANNIE! SOW Sista. Sisterfriend. Have fun at 7 Feathers and on the coast. Wine for me. Miss you.

BIG celebration when you return! And... I promise not to wrap crime scene tape all around your gate this time!!! (hmmm.....)

I had a chat with Kristen yesterday. She's doing better and her girlfriend was taking her to the market. Getting out is good. The new puppy, Jasper, is doing great! When she lays on the couch, both pups are right there with her! Here is Jasper with my Alex JellyBean ...
Awwwwwwww......................

Historically this date...

1846Elias Howe is granted a patent for the sewing machine.

1946 – While riding a train to Darjeeling, Sister Teresa Bojaxhiu of the Loreto Sisters' Convent claimed to have heard the call of God, directing her "to leave the convent and help the poor while living among them". She would become known as Mother Teresa.

And births this date include...
1918Rin Tin Tin, German shepherd dog (d. 1932)
.... What a legacy he left. Long line of beautiful smart dogs! Loved the Rin Tin Tin show back in the '50's. "Lt. Rip Masters", James Brown, sent me an autographed photo of he an 'Rinty'! (It's somewhere......)

Gerald Thomas, a C.A. Swanson & Sons executive, had a big problem. What to do with about 270 tons of left over Thanksgiving turkey.
"After Thanksgiving, Swanson had ten refrigerated railroad cars -- each containing 520,000 pounds of unsold turkeys -- going back and forth across the country in refrigerated railroad box cars, because there was not enough storage in warehouses. We were challenged to come up with a way to get rid of the turkeys," said Thomas.
He got the breakthrough idea from the trays used for airline food service. And the TV dinner was born.

The first production order was for 5,000 dinners, thought to be a big gamble at the time. They had about two dozen women armed with ice cream scoops filling the new trays at night.
The first TV dinner featured turkey, corn bread dressing and gravy, buttered peas and sweet potatoes. It cost 98 cents and came in a box resembling a TV.
The 5,000 dinners proved to be a gross underestimation. Swanson sold 10,000,000 of them that year.
Of note, most folks didn't own freezers back then, so the dinners were bought and prepared the very same day.
A frozen fried chicken dinner was introduced in 1955. Turkey is still the most popular Swanson TV dinner, except in Fort Worth-Dallas, where fried chicken is the favorite. (Don't ask)

In 1962 they stopped calling them TV Dinners.

Sue,

Glad to see Alex is doing better and is feeling like going to the market. I can't imagine recuperating from surgery and having a new puppy to take care of. They seem to need so much attention.

Bill O'Reilly is my favorite show on Fox. I love the variety on his show and I love the debates they have and his guests. I don't agree with him on everything but just about everything. That's one show I don't miss and record it if I am goint to miss it.

I so remember those TV dinners. Funny how frozen dinners of today are still called TV dinners. I remember when they were 39 cents.

When did you change the kitty's name from Baby to Brusier? I know you changed it from Casper. I must have missed something.

Thanks BFF for the Birthday greeting, and yes we will definitely par-tay when we get back. Wow, I have the same birthday as O'Reilly. That will make Bill happy, he loves the guy!
Sorry your visit with Linda was short, but at least you got to see them for a bit, and she will return. Yeah!
Short comment, but I need to go to get ready for the day. Have a wonderful day and we will chat later.

T, at least Kristn's new pup is small and sleeps a lot! He's a real sweetheart.Changed cat's name from Casper (the ghost) when he made himself more visible. Then because he was black and white like a radio car and I didn't think 'Baby' was the right name, I thought radio cars are also called 'cruisers'... so combined Baby with cruiser and came up with Bruiser. I know. Complicated. But, he really is a bruiser, surviving all this time in the 'wilds' and on his own. xo

Gerry got his dog 3 weeks before his hip surgery. The deal was it had to be housebroken before. The muchkin turned out to be more a pleasure than a pain for him. Gave him something to think about besides ouch and a cranky wife):-

Bull O'Reilly's show (that was not a mis-spelling) usually gets turned on. But depending on his mood- I get tired of shove it in your face politics. I prefer more thoughtful conversation than tightly drawn time templates allow. What is said is hardly a surprise- so why listen to a bunch of irritated people shout over one another?
