Polish Noodles ~ PJ ~ Rooster Crow ~ Canada Day

Good 60º humid somewhat cloudy drizzly morning. Yesterday at 3:30 we got rain. A downpour! It lasted 50 minutes and stopped with an occasional drop. Total of 1/4". I'm sure everyone in town at the Rooster Crow were ducking for cover! Dang.

Wow, July already. This year is zipping along. Keep thinking of all the people in Colorado and those fires and how horribly frightening it all is. Praying they get relief SOON!

A special friend's birthday is today. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PJ!
Since you know about the party, will see you later today for grits, grins, and gin. Er, wait. How about wieners, witticisms, and wine. Yeah, that's more like it!

Ok, so to go along with the awesomely good pork chops from yesterday's blog, here is a great super simple Polish Noodles recipe I have made dozens of times... I think it originally came from the Frugal Gourmet.

Sauté small diced onion in butter.
Add 4 cups shredded cabbage. Sauté 5 or so minutes until tender crisp.
Cook 8oz pkg egg noodles in boiling salted water. Don't over cook. Drain.
Add cooked egg noodles to cabbage.
Add 1 T. caraway seed
Salt and pepper
Mix in 1/2 cup of sour cream. (Or serve a dollop on top of each serving.) Heat through, 5 min, stirring frequently.

Now, if you aren't serving these with pork you can always add some crumbled bacon to the mix and/or mushrooms.

The Rogue River Rooster Crow Parade was such fun! PatT picked me up and we headed downtown. Got my regular spot at the corner by Ace. Along with us were 'Ron & Pat' (another Pat!) who have been sitting on that corner for every parade for the last 33 years! Since Dave was with the Ace group in the parade, Nancy joined us too.

In the parade was Dennis Richardson who represents District 4 in Salem Oregon. He is the Republican Co-Chair of the Joint House-Senate Ways and Means Committee. District 4 includes the cities and communities of Applegate, Central Point, Gold Hill, Grants Pass, Medford, Merlin, Murphy, Rogue River, and Williams. Dennis grew up in Los Angeles, was a decorated Viet Nam helicopter pilot. A REAL GOOD GUY! We love him!

And also in our little folksy parade was the awesome Doug Breidenthal. Doug has been a Southern Oregon firefighter for the past 20 years. He is now running for Jackson County Commissioner. He's from Long Beach and the Assistant Chief of Ops at Kingsley Field at Oregon National Guard Dept.
Here is our Rooster Crow Parade yesterday...
