Leap Day ~ Snow ~ Another TC Incident ~ Coughing Diagnosis

Good 32º snowy morning. Rain started yesterday afternoon and got harder and the wind blew and it rained harder... then the snow started about 7pm. We got about 3/4" of rain before the snow. Pretty out there. So glad I don't have to go ANYWHERE today!!!

.... and as I write, it's snowing again!

Yesterday was a busy one. Went to see the pulmonary specialist and she thinks I have a sinus infection. She gave me nose squirters, a neti pot (the new kind

..) and some heavy antibiotics. The new antibiotics are about 30 times stronger and you only take 2 the first day and then one a day for the next three days. Anyway, I'm feeling better already! Then to Target for some of their Archer's Tiramisu coffee and something to try ... Chocolate Strawberry coffee. Then to Costco, Cash & Carry, the pharmacy, Ace, and the market. Whew. Picked the right day for all that running around. Now to stay in and warm and dry.

We did have another 'incident' at our curve on the road. Three days ago someone took out PJ & Dave's mailbox and Monday night someone took out the
sign that was between my driveway and theirs. The county crew was in the process of digging out the old post and putting in new when I was leaving for town....

The sign that was taken out was between the existing sign and the county truck..

When I came home there were now three signs~!

Apparently the driver took out the one near PJ's driveway and then crossed over the roadway and took out some more farther down! Wonder what today's snow will bring.

LEAP DAY! For those of you born on this date.... Sheesh, a birthday every 4 years. Dang, wish it had been me.... I would only be 16 years old!!! WOW. Dating Jack Bruno, Karl Sherman, Mike Bastian, Dave Aguilar.......

Sandy                and Sue          and I

would be hanging out and riding around in Sue's 1952 Chevy!

or Sandy's Renault.....

and going to Henry's on Valley or Taco Petes or Farmer Boys.....

Anyway, I don't know anyone who has a birthday today. Maybe after my blog comes out I'll hear of some.

My friend Tally, pretty wife of the handsome dashing retired LA Co fire Captain .. Spencer Huntoon (for you Wilsonites!) (Dang, wish these pictures had scanned better!)

asked me about the weight of dried mushrooms vs reconstituted. So, I didn't know and experimented. Weighed 2 cups of dry, reconstituted them, weighed them. 2 cups equals about 1 oz and when reconstituted they weighed 7 oz. She needed to know for a recipe that calls for 2 pounds of mushrooms and she wanted to use the dried variety.

If you have not seen this video of a tame lioness and her cubs with her keeper, you will be blown away! If you have seen it, it's so worth watching again! It's just a big "Awwwwwwww" !

Historically this date.....
1504Christopher Columbus uses his knowledge of a lunar eclipse that night to convince Native Americans to provide him with supplies.

1916Child labor: In South Carolina, the minimum working age for factory, mill, and mine workers is raised from twelve to fourteen years old.

1940 – For her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind, Hattie McDaniel becomes the first African American to win an Academy Award.

1960 – Family Circus makes its debut.
Ohh......one of my most favorite cartoons!!!

1972 – Hank Aaron becomes the first player in the history of Major League Baseball to sign a $200,000 contract.

And births this date include....
1916Dinah Shore, American singer and actress (d. 1994)

1944 – Dennis Farina, American actor
He just irritates me more than I can say! I guess it's because I know someone who acts as pompous as he does!

All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.

Re: somebody who could celebrate their b-day today...
Jimmy Rodriquez was in our grad class and as I recall was
born on 2/29/46. I'm not sure when his family celebrated
his annual b-day. He was one of the Hillside Village bunch of
guys who grew up together. After graduation he joined the
Marine Corps and returned from Viet Nam with battle scars
and missing fingers. His fiance married Armando Nieto, but
left him when Jimmy returned.... and Jimmy married her.
In 1972 Jimmy and Nora were living in a nice house at
#5 Old Ranch Road, Arcadia. Never heard from or about
him after that.

Many of us have very fond memories of cruising Henry's.
Remember the Hat served pastrami sandwiches? The Hat has expanded
its chain of restaurants, and one opened a couple miles away from us here in Lake Forest.
Opening day was really nostalgic with all the guys who worked
the original Hat when they were young serving at the new one.
They had a big display of black and white pix of the orig. Hat.
Still serving great tasting pastrami sandwiches.

After a night of cruising Henry's I liked to stop at Taco Pete's
for a cup of refried beans sprinkled with cheddar cheese and
hot sauce. Amazing that I was able to go to bed after that and
sleep like a baby 'til morn.

Ahhh, those really were the good ole days. You know, you and
I and all the rest of the Wilsonites from the 1950s thru 1965
lived the best of times in all history for teenagers. What a great life our
generation lived through as youth.
