~ Robin's Nest ~ Bill Hardey ~ Pork Loin Chops & Couscous ~

Good 40º drippy morning. Got rain in the night. Heard it about 4am. Maybe 1/8". Looks like a little dusting of snow on my mountain top.

Yesterday I was looking out the window and saw a couple of Tom turkeys wandering around in the backyard. The gray squirrel was in the bucket having himself some corn.... One turkey walked onto the porch, nosed around, then looked in the bucket. HE JUMPED! And then Mr. Squirrel LEAPT at him! Both of them off and running in different directions! OMG, I was howling with laughter! What a riot.

My friend CarolynT sent this...
It's a Robin in her nest with eggs, then hatchlings. Amazing.
The last scene is something else!

Yesterday I had a call from Patsy (wife of the late great Avalon Fire Chief, Jack Goslin) and sadly she told me our old friend Bill Hardey passed away from lung cancer.
Bill was a 'gentle giant'. Super nice guy!  Jerry nicknamed him, 'Hardly'. A Deputy on Catalina for some time and formerly worked at Altadena Station.  He, like Jerry, loved shooting and it was apropos he died on 4-10 (a shotgun caliber). I'm sure he and Jerry are doing a lot of catching up! RIP Billy.

And if you calculated your "days old" on yesterday's blog then this will be of interest:
Mondays child is fair of face,
Tuesdays child is full of grace,
Wednesdays child is full of woe,
Thursdays child has far to go,
Fridays child is loving and giving,
Saturdays child works hard for his living,
And the child that is born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, and good and gay.

Last night we had a fire and were very snuggy while the wind howled outside...

As you can see, Mr. Harley takes over my chair... so I sit on the couch! Lord knows I don't want to disturb him.

Dinner was pork loin chops with a dry rub and grill by 'Mr. Foreman'. The dry rub was 1 T. seasoned salt, 1/2 t. cayenne pepper, 1 t. sage, 1 T. paprika, and 1/2 t. black pepper.

I made the dried tomato couscous, then added a can of whole kernel corn, can of black olives, can of sliced mushrooms, and a can of green beans with potatoes.

It all came out extremely yummy.......

..... and I finally got around to that beer!

Thank you Sue for posting the information about Bill Hardy. I had the good fortune of working with him at Altadena Station and he was indeed a really nice guy. Bill was always there to help anyone with anything needed. He was the veteran deputy who took the time to mentor all, especially the new kids, never gruff, always even keeled, sharing his half crooked smile from the side of his mouth along with a wink or two for all who knew him. He will be missed by so many. Rest In Peace Brother Bill.

Sue,
I wonder if John knew Bill since John worked Catalina during the summers and he was the Gang Sgt at Altadena. I will ask him tonight.

XO Trisha
p.s. Thanks for the laugh about the squirrel and turkey. Today I needed a little smile. Will write my dd in a minute.
