~ Sushi ~ Pesto and Cream Cheese ~ Baked Alaska ~

Good 37º foggy first day of February morning.

Yesterday that darned squirrel showed up again but I did my best to ignore it. I did get all my cookbooks moved to shelving and am sorting through all my cooking magazines. Claire, bless her heart, said she's interested in them! Yeah. So, as soon as I peruse most of them Claire
will have a cooking magazine day.

Sun finally came out 3-ish... but most of the day was like this...

PJ came up and dropped off "Sushi". No, not food,
but her pet Beta fish.... I will babysit him until their return
from Quartzsite...
For now he has a new home in my kitchen window...

Maggs and I went to town to the post office and market.
Came home to this sunny view of the old homestead...

Maggie was saying, "why are you stopping,
I need my dinner.."

Since yesterday was Brandy Alexander day,
I made one.. never had one before..
1 1/2 oz brandy - 1 oz cream de cacao -
1 oz 1/2 & 1/2 - nutmeg to garnish...

Pretty good, but an after dinner drink for sure.
Sweet.

Then I made a recipe Claire shared with chicken,
tomatoes (I used canned, not fresh), I added sliced
garlic, onion (instead of shallot), pesto, cream cheese,
pasta, mozzarella cheese (I used fresh cheese balls sliced).
Quite tasty!!!

Sorry, Claire, I modified the recipe to fit what
was in my fridge and pantry.

Computer dating is ok, as long as you're a computer.

Historically this date...
1958Egypt and Syria merge to form the United Arab Republic, which lasted until 1961.
1978 – Director Roman Polanski skips bail and flees the United States to France after pleading guilty to charges of engaging in sex with a 13-year-old girl.
1979 – Convicted bank robber Patty Hearst is released from prison after her sentence is commuted by President Jimmy Carter.
    What a pathetic winner President!

And births this date include....
1894John Ford, American director and producer (d. 1973)
1901 – Clark Gable, American actor (d. 1960)
1928Stuart Whitman, American actor
1934Bob Shane, American folk singer (The Kingston Trio)
<Bob in the middle

1937Don Everly, American musician (Everly Brothers)
(Don on the right)
1965 – Brandon Lee, American actor (d. 1993)
AKA Bruce Lee

1968Lisa Marie Presley, American singer and actress

Ok, so today I'm keeping the squirrel at bay and getting the bills paid and the check book reconciled. Really! Will run to town later, as there is a package at the PO for me that I didn't find out about until I came home yesterday at 4:30! Mail is really late here sometimes.
All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.

Hi, Sarah here. No, I have never made a Baked Alaska .. I don't really care for ice cream and cake as it is. Carolyn Garcia Fields' birthday is tomorrow and mine is Thursday, and thanks for the card (so true) and the gift!! It rained most of yesterday. Sunny today. Kurt Warner was on the Joy Behar show last night and he is taking the Packers.

I hope you and Carolyn have great birthday celebrations! As for Joy Behar, she's a terminal BEEOTCH! Sorry. :o( As for the game... the best team will win. I'm rooting for the Packers because Aaron, the QB, is a California boy and besides the Steelers have gone to the SB and won too many... someone else needs to share! xo

Before a cup of coffee- Baked Alaska sounds like a political comment regarding Global Warming):-

Oregon Sue said...

Yes, obviously pre-coffee!!! LOL Speaking of "global warming" I hope this current storm is affecting the temperatures around Mr. Gore's house!!! xo

Sue,
Yes I have had baked Alaska many times. WONDERFUL and you know I am not a dessert person. It is the standard dessert fare on Friday formal nights aboard the Carnival ships.

Love that pic of Maggs! The expression on her face looks exactly what you said she was thinking! lol Great pic of your "homestead". It would have been perfect had the big red barn been in the photo too.

Hugs, Trisha
