~ Abraham Lincoln's Birthday ~ Ham & Cheese Waffles ~

Good 30º morning. Watch out, we're headed for a heat wave!

Actually we were "supposed to" get rain today, but now the great weather minds have changed and we "might" get it tonight.  Just as well, Nancy's Dave is off fishing. I saw him at Ace yesterday and he did say he was taking all his rain gear though!

Went to Grants Pass, dropped stuff at Brain's office, passed him on the road when I left heading to Staples for ink. Stopped at Ace for corn... you see:

..... my geese came back! I kept hearing their honking, thinking they were the geese that fly over all the time heading to my neighbor's pond. Finally I got up and looked and here they were on the barn roof. That is their first landing spot every year when they return. I ran out and put some cracked corn on the ground for them and will take more pictures. I always say hello to them and call them ... "Goosey Goose" and they respond by getting close to me at times and not being afraid. I can go out and put down the corn and they will walk towards me.
The male is slightly larger than the female.

After watching a couple of my afternoon shows I got out the

and was ready to mix up the buckwheat ingredients for the savory ham and cheese waffles. Well, darn. No buttermilk OR eggs. So off to the market Maggie and I go. Back inside our gate I stopped to take this picture, just for Trish....

Ok, so back to the waffles...
(Here is the link to the Waffle Week at Rachael Ray...
Everything mixed, ham chopped, cheese grated and mixed in. Baked in my shiny new waffle iron. Fried an egg. Topped a waffle and had dinner!

GOOD! GOOD! and GOOD! The left over waffles I'll put in zip bags and freeze and toast later. Had a couple this morning with coffee topped with some butter mashed up with organic Blue Agave sweetener (tastes a lot like honey)... Mmmmmmm mmmmm mmmmmm! She made waffles from cinnamon apple muffin mix yesterday. Looked heavenly. She's also going to experiment with making them with corn muffin mix and jalapeños. Sounds wonderful. In the savory waffles I made I used olive oil instead of butter she puts in hers.

Had some pretty cloud patterns yesterday afternoon....

Sue,
Great HUGE HUGS to you today! I sent two ecards but it seems that you only received one? So sorry I missed you last night on IM. Forgot to put up away message.
Thanks so much for taking a special pic just for me! :) Now THAT was the perfect photo! The big red barn was included! :) Say, when you drive up to your house does the road take you to the barn then around to the house? It looked that way in the pic.

A ferw years ago when we were having CRP Convention in Burlingame, Eric took Carol and me to Alioto's for dinner. Pretty disappointed. Very ordinary and very expensive. Carol ordered the lobster tail to the tune of $60+!! Thought that was outrageous. I had beef.
Happy to see that your geese have returned. Many of our hummers have returned now too. It's STILL winter tho!!
Have a good time at Patty & Cliff's tonight! Love that dinner, corned beef and cabbage! Think I will make the diet cabbage soup today!:)
Think I need it after drooling at your waffles! YUM!! No maple syrup?? Make mine bosenberry syrup. :)

Hugs, XOXO Trisha

I have buttermilk and eggs in the frig. You couldn't come by here):- I would always share with someone who cooks like you in hopes of a few crumbs this way.

God bless Rachel Ray for waffle week. Us wafflers know something the generation of frozen food kids do not. The taste of fresh. Maybe more will go out and explore.

Your geese are an omen.... Good fortune and good weather are on the way

Thanks T for the HUGS!!!
The road comes in the gate and then there is another gate that leads to the barn so you don't pass it on the way to the house.
Too bad about Aliotos. I think the last time we were there was about 1992 or 1993. Rode up on our Harley. Such fun!
No, no syrup on the savory waffles. The egg was great with... and the tomaotes. ox

Really, L, geese are an omen? Hmmmm... they show up every year like clockwork. A little early this year..usually their arrival is in March. There are a couple more pair that will join them. Such fun to watch. xo

Time passes too quickly ... three years?? In August Tom will be gone six years. What a wonderful waffle maker, and a great idea to freeze the remaining waffles you cooked for future breakfasts. Are geeze like swallows? Return to the same place each year about the same time? Yesterday, Dick and I played Deal or No Deal DVD game I picked up at a steal from Amazon.com, such fun! Weather is beautiful today. We'll BBQ tonight. Sarah Signing Off ...

4 years Sarah. Yes, too quickly as evidenced by the growth of my grandchildren and the ages of my kids!! OMG. Apparently the homing instinct is strong in geese and they return to their birthplace to nest. xo
