Good 42º cloudy morning. Rain predicted for this week. 

Yesterday was another sunny and nice day. A few wispy clouds and some wind. We stayed in the low 80ºs.

In the morning I met up with Brian, Jen, Tucker, Sami, and Jean at Lulu's in Grants Pass for breakfast. Inside seating or outside....

The place is interesting. Lots of baked goods and a full bar along with many interesting coffees. I had a stuffed waffle.... and the waitress gave Jean, Jen, and I covered strawberries...

Jen had some kind of sandwich with ham and egg....

Brian and Jen gave Jean and I an orchid plant and Sami made a card...

In 1963 America adopted the postal code, and named it Zone Improvement Plan code or ZIP code for short. The Zip code is used in all 50 states as well as the American territories. The first ZIP code was issued to Agawam, Massachusetts. The town's postal code is 01001. Agawam is a town rich in history - from its founding in 1636, to its incorporation in 1855, to having the first Zip Code in the United States.

How about this super simple dinner recipe....

5 Ingredient Baked Ziti

1 1/2 pounds ground beef

1 t. garlic salt

8 oz package ziti, cooked and drained

28 oz jar of spaghetti sauce

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

• Preheat oven to 350º.
• Brown the ground beef in a skillet.
• Add the garlic salt while browning, stirring until crumbly.
• When the beef is brown on the inside and outside, drain well. Add the spaghetti sauce.
• Mix the ziti noodles with the spaghetti and meat sauce.
• Spoon into a 9x13 inch baking dish and top with mozzarella cheese.
• Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Time-Saving Tip:Brown the meat a day or two in advance and cook the noodles. Store both ingredients in separate containers.

I can certainly understand why all 3 of his wives divorced him, but what I don't understand is why they married the creep in the first place! Money? Fame?

My "Italian son" Alex Corsaro and his girlfriend Maria at MCRD for the 2019 SD Boot Camp Challenge on Saturday May 11th. He stated "I think they tricked me into re-enlisting... "Sat me in a Barber's chair, turned around and I had no hair" !!

The Boot Camp Challenge consist s of a 4.6 mile course aboard the famous Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego where Marines are made! Prepare yourself for 19 obstacles and challenges you will have to overcome used by United States Marine Corps Recruits. Some of these obstacles will include wall climbs, log hurdles, tunnel crawls, cargo net climbs, rope climbs, ammo can lifts, sandbags and more. To ensure you stay highly motivated, Marine Corps Drill Instructors await throughout the course ensuring you complete the obstacles and challenges along the way. The Boot Camp Challenge accepts all participants from beginners to the most experienced obstacle course racers.

Both Alex and Maria participated and got medals for that....

Over 24 years ago I graduated from MCRD and earned the title "Marine". Being able to go back and run 4.6 miles including the infamous Marine Corps Obstacle Course, brought back such great memories. Rain, sand, burpees, Yes Sir, Aye Sir, and the DI's with their motivating ways to push you beyond your capabilities. All this brought my mind back to those days of being a "Recruit". Then my body said ohhhh no you're not ...the 5:20 min mile days are a lot higher now.... Thank you Maria Ramirez-Keller for being just as addicted to medals, I mean I couldn't be the only one with a MCRD Bootcamp Challenge Medal right?

Observed each year on May 13, National Frog Jumping Day is a favorite of young and old alike.

In 1865, Mark Twain published his first short story, Jim Smiley and His Jumping Frog. Later, he changed the name and published it as The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.  This same story also had a third title, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

The current frog jumping record was set in 1986 by Rosie the Ribeter, who jumped 21 feet, 5-3/4 inches.

HISTORY

Mark Twain’s story about a pet frog named Dan’l Webster and a casual competition between two men betting on whose frog jumps higher, is the origin of National Frog Jumping Day.  The annual Frog Jumping Contest,  which began in 1849 in Calaveras County, California is also an origin of this holiday.  The international counterpart of this celebration is February 19.
