Heat ~ Grape Eaters ~ Dancing Blue Crane ~ Largest Eye Critter ~ Buffalo Chicken Dip ~ Smoke ~ Fawn ~ Sunset ~ Burger Day

Good 54º super smokey morning.     Yesterday we topped at 98º. It was hotter in GP at 100º and my pal Linda in Woodland said they hit 106º. Yikes!

As warm as it got yesterday, Dude still wanted to go out periodically and lay in the sun!

Yesterday morning before the smoke came in heavy... doesn't look that good this morning!

I heard a funny noise so looked outside... and guess who was on top of the grapevines eating grapes!

The deer love the grape leaves and the turkeys love the grapes!

And speaking of strange bird activity...

All of the world’s 15 species of cranes perform elaborate dances as part of their social interaction. One of the smallest members of the family, the Blue Crane of southern Africa, has a particularly graceful dance. Members of a courting pair may bow, stretch, flap their wings, and leap into the air with bugling cries, and the dance may go on for as much as four hours.

This is interesting...

The eyes of the Colossal Squid can be up to 11 inches in diameter, about the size of a soccer ball, making it the largest known eye in the animal kingdom. Those large eyes are useful in the dark waters where the squid lives, up to 1,000 meters below the surface of the ocean. The colossal squid not only has large eyes, but its pupils are also large, around 3.5 inches. A large pupil allows the eye to collect every last photon of light in the deep waters. A study showed that giant squids could detect a moving sperm whale from 394 feet with these eyes.

Ok girls, remember these....???

Do you like buffalo wings? How about this super simple easy crock version... only it's
Buffalo Chicken Dip

4 T. butter
1 cup hot sauce, Frank's Red Hot is best
2 8oz. packages cream cheese, softened
2 cups cooked chicken, shredded (store bought rotisserie works great!)
1 cup blue cheese crumbles
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Carrot and celery sticks, tortilla chips, corn chips for dipping.

1. In small pot over medium heat, melt butter and whisk in hot sauce... set aside
2. Add cream cheese to slow cooker, top with shredded chicken, hot sauce/butter mix, blue cheese, and mozzarella cheese.
3. Cook 2 hours on low or 1 hour on high.
4. Serve with dippers alongside.

In the early evening we had more smoke....

and Dude started a minor growling, I looked out and here was a baby deer....

Don't know why Dude was growling. He doesn't usually do that, but maybe from his point of view it looked like a dog!

Then the sunset....

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Sunday. Ciao.

Today’s burger trivia:

  1. The oldest fast food restaurant in the world is the White Castle franchise, which opened in 1921.
  2. The people of America eat more burgers out at restaurants or on the go than they do at home.
  3. The largest hamburger ever created was over 8,000 pounds and was cooked for a burger festival in Wisconsin.
  4. However, the hamburger in its current form, with ground beef and a bun, is a decidedly American creation.
  5. Hamburgers are made of beef, not ham, and there is much debate over whether they actually originated in Hamburg.
