Shoulder ~ Pat Goslin ~ City Name Pronunciation ~ Bear

Good 54º clear sunny last day of July morning. Yesterday still only double digits... we hit 97º.

Hard to believe, 5 months and then a new year!

So, I took a few days off from writing my blog, and at this point I may not do it daily yet. For nearly 2 weeks my shoulder hurt and I thought I had pulled a muscle. Sitting and typing hurt. Bestie Linda TOLD me to go to Urgent Care and see what is really wrong... so I did on Thursday.

After an exam and x-ray ...

Diagnosis was mild osteoarthritis of the acromioclavicular joint! ( )
So, they gave me lidocaine patches to put on the shoulder and Ibuprofen, both to reduce the pain. Slow process! Still lots of pain. Still can't throw a football, use a baseball bat, box, or swing on the bars.... just in the bars!!!

Funny that within one day Dude had an x-ray and then I did. Both falling apart!!! Ha ha ha.... both of us the same age... he as old as me in dog years~

Everyone at Grants Pass Asante Urgent Care was super nice! From Ashley, nurse assistant, to Gabrielle, nurse practitioner, to Becky the x-ray tech. As it turns out, Ashley is a wine lover like me, even has some of the same shirts, and my Brian is her insurance agent!

Late yesterday I found out a dear friend of mine had passed away on Saturday evening. Pat Goslin, a close friend of mine since 1975.

Pat and her husband Jack, who passed away a few years ago, were Godparents to Jerry's oldest son Aaron. Jack was Avalon Fire Chief, Jerry was working Catalina Island as a Deputy, Aaron was born on the island. Jack and Jerry were very close friends.

Pat and I became close. She was the one who taught me how to make the BEST spaghetti. She and I chatted often and exchanged mail and photos. She was a super nice lady and will be missed so much. Love you Pat. Rest in Peace girlfriend!

Pat and her Clancy:

I am praying her Clancy gets a good home.

Pat had been on dialysis three times a week, for several years. LOL, here she is on her way for her treatment on Halloween 2014:

Historically this date....
1941 – Holocaust: under instructions from Adolf HitlerNazi official Hermann Göring, orders SS General Reinhard Heydrich to "submit to me as soon as possible a general plan of the administrative material and financial measures necessary for carrying out the desired final solution of the Jewish question."

..........there are just no words to describe what sick monsters these

 people were, Hitler in particular.

2007 – Operation Banner, the presence of the British Army in Northern Ireland, and the longest-running British Army operation ever, comes to an end.

And births this date include....
1929 – Don Murray, American actor

1932 – Ted Cassidy, American actor (d. 1979)

1939 – France Nuyen, French actress

1965 – J. K. Rowling, British writer

I was watching our local news and there was a teen hiking on Mr. Shasta that got lost and after 3 days was found. She is from Laguna Niguel.
Now if you are from So. Cal. you know Laguna Niguel is pronounced "Laa goona Nigg gell". And I suppose if it is not familiar to you, you would pronounce it "Laa goona Nigh gel" !! Well, that, among other cities in Callie have been pronounced wrong by the newscasters up here. I called them to fill them in on the correct pronunciation.

So. Cal folks, remember our (dumb) LA Mayor Sam Yorty pronouncing Los Angeles as "Los Angle leeees" ??

Yesterday morning, about 2am, I heard a noise. Looked out and a bear had turned over the big can I keep filled with cracked corn. I yelled and slapped the sliding door window and he got scared and ran away. I went out, turned the can upright, and sprayed it with WD-40. I had the same problem 3 years ago with a bear turning over the can and getting inside to eat the corn... I took a picture and that scared him away...

and the WD-40 kept the bear away after that when he came back, moved the can slightly, then ran away. I had forgotten to re-spray the can after that, for 3 years, so that's why this one yesterday wasn't repulsed.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday Bill Paying Day. Ciao.

July 31st
National Cotton Candy Day

Five Food Finds about Cotton Candy:

  1. Cotton candy was originally called fairy floss.
  2. Cotton candy contains only one ingredient: sugar.
  3. The process by which cotton candy is made has been around for over 100 years so chances are you could ask your grandparents about their first encounter with cotton candy and they’ll tell you at great length how much it cost and how neat it was back in the day.
  4. It was forgotten for a while several decades ago, but cotton candy became an instant hit when suddenly it was mass produced and became readily accessible to everyone – not just the ones going to a fair or circus.
  5. Cotton candy doesn’t contain all that much sugar – merely as much sugar as one would get drinking a can of an average soft drink.

Hope your shoulder is better. It's so easy to forget and irritate it again so.... tie a ribbon on your wrist or something to remind you not to grab or lift with that arm! Sorry about Pat.But Heaven needs more Pats we wont all get in ! P.J.

Heaven needs more Pats? Good to know. :) Hope they know that's my other nickname even tho I detest it. lol
Sorry for the loss of one of your Pats. Sounds like she had a good life.

Oh I remember that fool Yorty and often wondered WHY someone didn't tell him if he was going to be the mayor of a city he damn well should be able to pronounce the name of the city! Jeeeeze! Only a Democrat!!!

Girl you are so brave! I am glad that bear ran away and didn't try to come in after you. :( I have never heard you say you had bears on your property!

How well I know about shoulder pain! So sorry you have that.

Stay safe!

Well, Trish, if you are a Patricia you are a Pat! Not only do I have many "Pat" friends, I am a Pat's Fan (Patriots!!) The bear was small and young, so the porch light most likely kept him away. Yes, bears here ... lions (mountain) tigers (cougars) and bears, oh my! Last year a bear got into my pear tree, broke off a big branch, but ate all the pears just as they got ripe! Oh well, he was happy!

Hopefully the pain will leave or I will accept and get used to it. xo

Sue, I forgot to tell you. Years before I had my shoulder bursitis attack I had shoulder pain and could barely lift my arm. Kaiser sent me to a shoulder class. I thought that was weird at the time but they give you exercises, pullies, etc. After doing them for awhile it was all better. Maybe you should see your regular doctor now for further instructions.

XO Trisha
