Moon ~ Weather Prediction ~ Throw Back Thursday ~ Senator Herman Baertschiger ~ Gift Basket ~ Jalapeño Popper Dip ~ Pepper Pot Day

Good 35º foggy/cloudy (what else is new?) morning. According to weather people this next week is supposed to get down into the teens and 20ºs. Yikes!

Towards sunset last night there was actually some blue sky peeking through!

Throw Back Thursday...
I probably posted this before, but it always makes me smile... Christmas... Daddy got a new tie (while he smoked a cigar IN THE HOUSE!), me having Mom help me try on some gloves, with sister Marion behind me.

My pal Karen Baertschiger's son Herman, our local State Senator just received an award..
Congratulations Herman on a super job well done!!!

Yesterday the UPS truck arrived with a package. I had no clue, but inside was this awesome basket with cheeses, fruit, olive oil, salted caramel syrup (for coffee), Baklava, pineapple, smoked salmon, salami, and candy!!! OMG. It came from a friend who I did a couple things for to help out with a project he had. THANK YOU D & B!!!!

Since it was 'chocolate candy day' I gobbled up a few of the Ghirardelli  chocolate candies right away!!!!

Did a quick run into town for a package at the post office... Christmas gifts. They are late getting here, but will give soon.

Now if you are thinking of entertaining on New Year's Eve or day, or are going to someone else's house... what about this super good and super easy Jalapeño Popper Dip:

1 4oz can diced jalapeños, well drained
1 8oz pkg cream cheese, softened
1 cup sour cream
1 t. garlic powder
2 cups shredded cheese
3/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
Topping:
1 cup Panko bread crumbs
4 T. butter or margarine melted
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1 T. fresh parsley
Combine the cream cheese, garlic, sour cream until fluffy. Add cheddar, Parmesan, and diced jalapeños. Mix well. Spread in 8x8 baking dish. Mix bread crumbs and butter and parsley. Sprinkle over cream cheese mixture. Bake 375º 15-20 minutes until golden brown. (Double it for a larger crowd!)

Serve with corn chips (I love Fritos Scoops!), crackers, or toasted  baguette slices.
Dinner was reruns of last nights casserole with the rice, veggies, chicken, creamy soup, and cheese. SOOOOOO GOOD!!!!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy TBT. Ciao.

Pepper Pot Day

Today is Pepper Pot Day! Pepper pot is a thick spicy soup first created on December 29, 1777. During the Revolutionary War, the Continental Army experienced an exceptionally harsh winter in Valley Forge. The soldiers were low on food because the farmers in the area sold all their supplies to the British Army for cash rather than the weak currency that the Continental soldiers could offer.
Christopher Ludwick, the baker general of the Continental Army, gathered whatever food he could find to feed the frail soldiers. The chef was able to find scraps of tripe, meat, and some peppercorn. He mixed the ingredients together with some other seasonings and created the hot spicy soup we now know as pepper pot. It became known as "the soup that won the war."
To celebrate this historic dish, try making your own pepper pot soup today! It’s the perfect way to warm up on a chilly December day.

I will forward this blog on to Daryl and Becky. It was no small favor you did for them and so happy they sent you the basket.. ENJOY! It looks like it so full of yummies.

That photo, yes you have posted before but I love it. Your dad looks so proper wearing a shirt and tie on Christmas morning in his own home. Yes, even smoking a cigar in the house. :) What tickles me is I can just imagine him thinking "OMG Not another tie!!" :)

Love Jon Voight! A rare Hollywood Republican! Good guy. I have met him on two different occasions. :)

XOXO Trisha
