Good 40º sunny morning.
TGIF! The beginning of the Memorial Day weekend and the Grants Pass
Boatnik. Parade. Carnival. Big deal in town. Actually it all started yesterday
with the carnival in Riverside Park....
They will continue through Monday....
Breakfast, the last of the meatballs and mac & cheese and asparagus....
with two poached eggs and tomatoes.....
Yesterday I was going to go shopping, but changed my mind. I put up my new
flag. NOT an easy task. The pole is telescoping and HEAVY!! Got it up
though..
Old flag ... new flag.....
The old flag will go to the local Rogue Valley Young Marines: Each year Rogue
Valley Young Marines spend hours retiring worn & tattered American flags at
their headquarters in Merlin. Last year 308 flags were respectfully retired and
it’s expected to exceed that figure in 2016.
The public is invited to bring flags to 345 Merlin Road
Merlin between 0800 and 1400 On June 4th for disposal. There is plenty of
parking and seating to view the ceremony.
In the shade of the barn yesterday were two young
deer.....
Today is a SPECIAL birthday... pal and Jerry's former Marine buddy, Andy
Nantz. HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDY!!!!
Andy with his bride, Linda, on a visit up here a few years back.

Later dinner was a concoction...
I had some rice blends and some farro...
About 2½ cups of those and two cans of clams, one with the juice (the other
juice was Bruisers!) and some Weber Roasted Garlic & Herbs (garlic, sea
salt, sweet red pepper, herbs & spices: http://www.weberseasonings.com/product/roasted-garlic-herb-seasoning
) If you can't find it at your local market, it's on Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=Weber+Roasted+Garlic+Seasoning
It is one of my favorites. So good on EVERYTHING!
So, it all went into the
rice cooker with enough added water to cover the top (at least if you laid your
hand on top of the rice mixture you'd want enough water to cover your hand.)
Let it cook away... Then some spinach in a dish, with the last of the
sweet peppers, drizzled with olive oil and some roasted garlic seasoning...
topped with the rice/clam mixture.
All I know. Happy TGIF. Nuff said. Ciao.

May 27th
Sunscreen Day
Sun Screen Day educates and brings awareness to the importance of using
sunscreen to protect yourself and your children from harmful UV rays from the
sun. This day is held on May 27th, just in advance of the summer and vacation
season.
Ultraviolet rays from the sun is a serious risk to your health. With the
steady depletion of the ozone layer above the earth, more and stronger UV rays
get through.
Overexposure to the sun can cause a number of health problems. It can cause
skin cancer, and sunspots. It can also result in premature aging of your
skin.
Doctors and medical professionals advocate the use of sunscreen, to guard
against health problems. They recommend an Skin Protection factor(SPF) of 15 or
more. Sunscreens should be used for all outdoor activities, including
swimming.
And yes, sun screens should be used on cloudy days. UV rays can penetrate
through the clouds.
Now get out and celebrate Sun Screen Day in the sun...with your sun screen
protection!
