Dentist ~ Bear ~ Restaurant Joke ~ Delmonicos ~ Cheese

Good 39º very foggy morning. Yesterday another 1/2" of rain.

 

Yesterday was errand and chopper cleaning day. I picked up some homemade Manhattan style clam chowder from Jennifer at her work and dropped off some things for her. Teeth cleaned by Liz. 

Liz and I had a fun time chatting about everything!  I only see her twice a year and was thinking we should get together for lunch! (Whadda think Lizardbreath?) After the 'whites' were made pearly again Dr. Susan checked them out. Said all was good!  Was going to do some shopping afterwards, but only stopped by Brian's office to drop off some stuff. By then it was 5:30 and I hate driving in the dark. Besides the wind was horrendous and rain coming down like crazy, so came home.

While watching Blue Bloods on Monday night, Police Commissioner (Tom Selleck) was dining at Delmonicos. That restaurant was on my bucket list and when I was on a cruise with the Deputies On The Go from NY to Nova Scotia and back... my friend Joan and I ate there. She was a New Jersey girl and gave me the 'Nickel  Tour' of the city. Outside the restaurant was this NY cop..... twirling his baton! LOL...

Beautiful restaurant! We were really early, ahead of the crowd.

A Delmonico steak and onion rings. YUMMMMMM   Great food and super service!

So, on Blue Bloods I took this off the TV... Selleck standing in front of Delmonicos (in the white coat) ... where he ended up getting shot!

 

Since it was Popcorn Day, I had some for dinner... along with a mini pizza. Then it was chair, wine, and more Blue Bloods! The Manhattan Chowder is for tonight.

National Cheese Lover's Day

Today is National Cheese Lover’s Day! Did you know that the average American consumes about 31 pounds of cheese each year? That may seem like a lot, but for the average French person it’s 50 pounds!

 

There are more than 900 known cheeses in the world, and they can all be classified by texture. Here are the primary classifications and some examples: fresh cheese (ricotta); soft cheese (feta); semi-soft cheese (Fontina); semi-hard cheese (Gouda); hard cheese (Cheddar); double or triple crème cheese (Brillat-Savarin); blue cheese (Gorgonzola); washed rind cheese (Limburger); and bloomy rind cheese (Brie).

 

People have been making cheese for at least 8,000 years, so the cheeses we enjoy today are all relatively young by comparison. Take Emmental (also known as Swiss cheese), for example. It’s only been around since the first century BC!

 

Visit your local cheesemonger and pick up your favorite kind of artisan cheese or cook a cheesy dish for dinner tonight in honor of National Cheese Lover’s Day!
