Geese ~ Turkeys ~ Bruiser/Dude ~ Hash Brown Waffles ~ Waffle Cookies & Brownies ~ Infused Olive Oil

Good 41º foggy (what else) morning.

Yesterday the fog just hung around and hung around. Then the geese showed up... First it was three of them, then the others joined in..

This is just about exactly the same date they show up every year!

The turkeys were out if force also.... as Bruiser investigated..

It finally warmed to 56º . The sun was out so Dude and I rode/ran to the road and I put out the trash can. Stopped to check PJ and Dave's... Dude checked too!

Came home and made a Bloody M. Haven't had one of these in YEARS! Mmmmmm... really good.

Historically this date...
1838 – Tennessee enacts the first prohibition law in the United States
..........what in the world were they thinking????

1920 – Former Ford Motor Company executive Henry Leland launches the Lincoln Motor Company which he later sold to his former employer.

1960 – Danny Heater sets a worldwide high school basketball scoring record when he records 135 points for Burnsville High School (West Virginia)
..... short interesting.. but he never played pro or college ...

1961 – John F. Kennedy appoints Janet G. Travell to be his physician. This is the first time a woman holds this appointment.

1998 – Lewinsky scandal: On American television, U.S. President Bill Clinton denies having had "sexual relations" with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

** and just think, 15 years later minus 2 days his wife lies when testifying before house and senate panels re Benghazi. Geeze, you wonder if those two even have a remote idea of what the "truth" is!!! I think not. Whatever paddles their boat is what they go with.

2005 – Glendale train crash: Two trains derail killing 11 and injuring 200 in Glendale, California, near Los Angeles.

And births this date include...

Saw this and since Trish's son and his bride have a new waffle iron I sent her the instructions. Also shared with Jeannie, who still doesn't have a waffle iron, but should get one! LOL.

I like to make my grilled cheese (with bacon) sandwiches in the waffle iron. Spray it with cooking spray and add in your stuffed sandwich. Comes out GREAT! I posted this sometime back:
Lunch yesterday was a grilled cheese sandwich, cooked in the waffle iron. Mmmmmmmmmmm !!! Butter both sides of the bread as you would for grilling in a pan. I use I Can't Believe It's Not Butter spray. (Or as the daily drivel gals call it.. "ICBINB") You have to make sure the cheese is tucked inside the edges of the bread or it tends to run out. Just take the waffle iron apart, let it sit under cold running water, and the cheese lifts right off.

You can also get a box of brownie mix and make "brownie waffles" or use peanut butter cookie mix!
Also, spray waffle iron with cooking spray, take apart a can of refrigerated biscuits, put 4 on waffle iron at one time and cook.  How abut Buffalo Wing Chicken Waffles....

Ok, so I discovered I was almost out of my infused olive oil.  OMG! Can't let that happen!
First I soak dried garlic slices, dried chopped onion, and dried red pepper flakes in really hot water until it cools.

Then strain and dry with paper towels.

Heat enough olive oil, to fill three wine bottles (or whatever you want to store it in), to 175º.

When it's hot, add in the re-hydrated  garlic/onion/peppers..Let sit until room temperature.

Put a coffee filter in the strainer and let the olive oil soak through..

I put it in used wine bottles and use a pour/stopper so it's easy to use.

This is good on EVERYTHING... even scrambled eggs!!!

Didn't watch the Miss Universe Contest. Didn't watch the Pro Bowl. Didn't watch the SAG Awards. Soooooooooooo not interested in any of them!

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Monday. Ciao.

January 26th
National Spouse's Day

Spouse's Day is always on January 26th
Military Spouse's Day is held on the Friday before Mother's Day
Spouse's Day is a time to enjoy and appreciate your better half. You can use this day as a prelude or warm up to Valentine's Day, perhaps. But, its not as much of a gift giving event. Rather, use it as a time to show your spouse that you care and appreciate all of the things that he/she does for you and for the household. Over the long years of a relationship, its easy to take for granted the many things your spouse does. He/she's always there. They do so many big and little things as a routine event. So, take today to notice and to say thanks. As for the "enjoyment" part of the day...we will leave that up to you to enjoy your spouse however the two of your desire....
Military Spouses Day is a day to recognize and honor the real backbone of the military..... the spouses of our soldiers. This day recognizes the contributions made by military spouses to the spirit and well being of soldiers and military communities. Where would military moral be without their spouses behind them?

Well I did watch the SAG Awards. I was delighted that there wasn't any crap involved, just awards. It was the most efficient awards show I have seen. Two hours and it was done! I was elated that one of my favorites won in their catagory, Downton Abby. How great it was to see many of those cast members all dressed up in contemporary gowns looking way younger than they do on the show.

I was interested in reading about that Metrolink crash in Glendale. So sad. Wondering why a vehicle on the tracks derailed the train. This happens usually and the train just scoots the car along. Prayers for my boys on those trains for their safety.

Watch for my email re the waffle iron.
