Road Sign ~ Reagan ~ Gopher Snake ~ Sir Nicholas Winton ~ Beef Tongue ~ Kerry

Good 60º clear sunny gonna be another hot humid day morning. UGH.

Trish sent this. Was on her son's FB page...
Apparently it's somewhere in Alaska..

Don't go there guys!!!

OMG, this is funny!!! President Reagan....

Yesterday I went out to mow, got the mower started up and headed for the lawn... and here comes Bruiser up the driveway with a young green snake in his mouth! Looked like this one...

He came towards the house so I followed him, called to him, he laid down and dropped the snake in front of him. I picked up the snake, he seemed ok, and took him to the ginormous burn pile and placed him deep inside. Felt he would be safe there. Poor little guy. He looked so scared. I guess it was just the thrill of the catch and Bruiser really didn't want to eat him! Whew.....

Sir Nicholas Winton saved 669 Jewish Czechoslovakia children from Nazi death camps and brought them safely to Great Britain between 1938-1939. Here is a video of him sitting in an audience and he doesn't know these people sitting next to him are the ones he saved. Get the Kleenex!

By two-ish yesterday it was cloudy and we had radar showing over us.. but, it never did rain, nor did I hear any thunder.

So, I know I'm going to get a lot of negative "Ewwwwwww"'s from the next item. You really can't be derogatory about things people eat and drink unless you have actually tried it and it didn't suit your palate or didn't make your tummy happy. Years ago Jerry introduced me to beef tongue. Now see... there you go... but, on the other hand you eat young sheep, chicken's wings and legs and innards, baby cows, etc... So, just stop and listen. I realize that you have to get past the "tongue" aspect part (maybe a psychological block more that anything else). The first one we cooked was in a pot of boiling water on the stove. Aaron came home, nosey about dinner, and lifted the lid and said, "How come you're boiling a tennis shoe?" OMG.  We didn't tell the kids what it was, they ate it, and liked it!

You see, the skin on the tongue turns white. Anyway, I had one in the freezer so put it in the crockpot, covered with water, added about 3 T of crushed garlic and some TJ's 12 Spice. I cooked it on low for about 15 hours. Then you peel off the skin and take off the little bits of fat. Slice it up and it's ready for any kind of meal you would normally eat with beef. Sandwiches, tacos, burritos, chopped on a salad.... I decided to reheat it with some stir fry veggies and some zucchini cakes.

I heated a pan with a drizzle of infused olive oil, heated the meat slices, added in some stirfry veggies, put lid on. Then I heated some zucchini cakes. GOOOOOOD dinner!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!!!

Actually breakfast yesterday was eggs and zucchini cakes. (got the zuc cakes at Costco)

Also, I used to think WINE was bad for me,

LOL Cracking up at the photo of Kerry! LOL

That road sign is a hoot, huh? I thought maybe John had come upon it while in his big truck but guess not.

I had to LOL about your "tongue" comments. It was if you were reading my mind and telling me to just listen. HA! There are just some things that I will never try and that includes snails.

LOVED RR and his funny stories. No one could tell a story like he did. He knew how to grab the attention of his audience!!

You are one brave gal with handling snakes. Glad Bruiser didn't eat it. :(

XOXO Trisha

I agree with you T re snails. I spent too many years killing them in my garden. A friend had some, said they were really really chewy and the only flavor was the garlic butter they were in. Not interested. About the only critters other than dogs and cats that I would handle are non-poisonous snakes, lady bugs,& lizards... but will not touch spiders or beatles, scorpions, crickets, fleas, tics, or cockroaches. xo

Damn, wish I was at your house for dinner. I've never cooked beef tongue myself but always order it at Sherman's Jewish deli ... was introduced to it when I worked in the garment district in NY ... bigggggggg Jewish staple, and yes, so good. I'm not sure Bill would eat it if I bought it ... might just try it the next time I go to Winco ... just not tell him what it is. lol

Now I will tell you my story about my first experience with Beef Tongue. With my odd likes & dislikes, as you know, this will make you laugh. When I worked in the bank in SD, a friend came down from the lunch room and told me that she had left me a half of sandwich. I ate the sandwich and told her that was the best beef sandwich I had tasted in a long time. She told me it was tongue. I was surprised but it was good.

That made me laugh! See..... sometimes you form opinions, we all do, before we know the real truth! xo
