Boatnik ~ Ma Mosa's ~ Team Names ~ Hotel Sheets

Good 54º cloudy morning. Supposed to be cooler today than yesterday.

Yesterday was a mad dash to the Post Office to return an item to Bradford Exchange. I had ordered a Tom Brady The Legend piece

and instead they sent me Disney "Dashing Through The Snow" decoration.

Sigh...

Then to the car wash... no rain in the picture for the foreseeable future! (Well, that's probably changed now!) The to Brian's office to pick up Boatnik tickets. Brian is a Gold Sponsor....

Then to Ma Mosa's in Grants Pass for lunch with Dee Yellin, Kathy Corso, Nancy Perry, and Gloria Whitley...

I have Alzheimer's. I forgot to take a camera! Duh. Lunch was good. None of us had been there before. The fish tacos I had were soft, filled with a super good red cabbage slaw and salmon. Accompanied by black beans. YUMMMM! We split a bottle of wine. Yacky yacked and more. Basically they serve fresh cuisine and it's a good spot for vegetarians also. Then to the Elk's Lodge for another glass of wine. Nancy had errands so didn't accompany us. :o(   Had a great time getting to know Gloria. She and hubby (former Navy, 29 years, and FBI) moved down from Washington state. They like it here and are contemplating permanently moving. They are looking for a place. She is the sister of my friend Edda in Diamond Bar. She also makes jewelry and has some on display in Grants Pass in the store on 6th and G Street I think. I'll have to get the name and address. She makes beautiful stuff.

Had a chat with Billi, bartender, and Christen, bartender, a nice couple who are staying in a hotel because their motorhome broke down, and a really nice lady who had some recent falls and a broken arm and neck!  Gloria talked to the ER (Exalted Ruler) Tom Miller about her John joining the Elks.

Now this is funny... thanks Nancy (Kujala) Sammons (former high school classmate/locker partner) for sending this!!!

I agree with our Native American population.  I am highly insulted by the racially charged name of the Washington Redskins.  One might argue that to name a professional football team after Native Americans would exalt them as fine warriors, but nay, nay.  We must be careful not to offend, and in the spirit of political correctness and courtesy, we must move forward. Let's ditch the Kansas City Chiefs, the Atlanta Braves and the Cleveland Indians.

If your shorts are in a wad because of the reference the name Redskins makes to skin color, then we need to get rid of the Cleveland Browns. The Carolina Panthers obviously were named to keep the memory of militant Blacks from the 60's alive.   Gone.  It's offensive to us white folk.

The New York Yankees offend the Southern population.  Do you see a team named for the Confederacy?  No!  There is no room for any reference to that tragic war that cost this country so many young men’s lives.

I am also offended by the blatant references to the Catholic religion among our sports team names.  Totally inappropriate to have the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Angels or the San Diego Padres.

Then there are the team names that glorify criminals who raped and pillaged.  We are talking about the horrible Oakland Raiders, the Minnesota Vikings, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Pittsburgh Pirates! Now, let us address those teams that clearly send the wrong message to our children.  The San Diego Chargers promote irresponsible fighting or even spending habits.  Wrong message to our children.

The New York Giants and the San Francisco Giants promote obesity, a growing childhood epidemic.  Wrong message to our children. The Cincinnati Reds promote downers/barbiturates.  Wrong message to our children.
The Milwaukee Brewers---well that goes without saying . . . Wrong message to our children.

So, there you go.  We need to support any legislation that comes out to rectify this travesty, because the government will likely become involved with this issue, as they should.  Just the kind of thing the do-nothing congress loves . . .

With all of this in mind, it might also make some sense to change the name of the Oregon State women's athletic teams to something other than "The Beavers.”

May 23rd
National Taffy Day

...... and
It's Lucky Penny Day. Perhaps a Lucky Penny will be lucky for you today.

Taken at face value, a penny doesn't buy you much, if anything. It used to. During your parents and grandparents days, a penny bought a lot of things. Most notably, Penny Candy got its name because a piece of candy cost a penny. Inflation year after year after year, eroded the penny's value. There has even been some discussion as to whether to discontinue the penny....Heaven forbid!
The penny still serves a very useful purpose...  at least some of them are lucky pennies.  Lucky pennies are found on the ground. Not all of the pennies you find will be lucky. But, it will only take one lucky penny used to scratch off the mega winner on a a scratch-off ticket.
Are you superstitious? Superstition has it that you should only pick up a penny that is lying face up.
Here are some other uses for pennies:
  • A penny for your thoughts.
  • To put your "two cents" in.
  • A necessity for penny pinchers
  • A handy screwdriver when nothing else is available.
