Sun/Fog ~ LASD ~ Football ~ Elephants ~ Sushi ~ Babs & Jim

Good 31º foggy (sigh) morning. Yesterday the sun did come out! OMG, yeah! But it never got over 45º.
By late afternoon the fog came in like gang-busters and I couldn't even see my barn... This was taken at almost 5pm.
OMG, my friend Jimmy Hellmold is running for LA Co Sheriff!!!!
Jimmy was at Lakewood when I worked there and I'd go on rides with him occasionally. Good guy. Great dad to three busy boys. Beautiful wife. He would be very good at the job. Honest, hardworking, and knowledgeable.

Wow, Saturday already! Tomorrow is big football day!
... and check this... Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos) talks about Bill Belichick (coach for Patriots). Will be good game, as Manning and Brady like and admire each other. Both are awesome quarterbacks!!!

Even if you have seen this before, it's so worth watching again!
At a sanctuary in Tennessee two elephants were reunited who had been in a circus together over 20 years prior. The older elephant has apparently been chained for years and has a bad leg. She now is free in wide open spaces with her best friend. Get out the box of Kleenex... you will need it. (Thanks Patty Rodriguez, LASD ret ELA friend, for this!)

Yesterday I met up with Jennifer at Mushashi for lunch.
She had a big rice/shrimp roll ... that she wanted me to taste...
and I had the Osaka Bento.... which was ahi tuna, chicken teriyaki, tempura shrimp and veggies ...
and a bowl of miso (soup) that is sooooo good! We had wine and saké. Nice time.

Earlier I had stopped at the Elk's to pick up another ticket for the "all you can eat crab feed" coming up. Jennifer decided to join us... Yellins, Corsos, Pattersons, maybe a couple Pattersons know, and probably one of the regular lodge guys will join our table with his friend. Lots of crab and good sides.

Today is the 27th wedding anniversary of Sandy (Todoran .... Wilson S'63) Beck's baby sister Babette and Jim Faust. Happy Anniversary kids!

All I know. Happy Saturday. Nuff said. Ciao.

I have ALWAYS loved elephants and I bawled like a baby at this video. I'm glad they had several years left to enjoy each other, but I could just PUNCH the people that treated them so poorly! Sheesh!

Oh that was a lot of lunch! It all looked so yummy except for the raw tuna. Can't imagine eating raw fish. The tempura especially looked good.

Elephants are such special creatures. The say they never forget. Love that they are our "mascot" :)

Say that Jimmy looks like a kid. Is that an old photo or does he just look young? Boy, we are going to have some great candidates for sheriff. Can't wait to hear from them all!

Oh how I wish we had some of your cold weather! I am getting sooo tired of 80+ degree weather and running the A/Cs in the middle of January!

The lunch wasn't really that much. I did bring home some of the tuna and rice and toppings and ate for dinner.

I don't know Jimmy's birthdate, but he's about Kristen's age... He had been on the department for a while when I knew him at Lakewood in about
1990. That would put him in his late 40's.

You don't want this cold weather. It never warms up!!!! You do need some cooler days and some rain though. xo

Had Sushi yesterday, not Nan's favorite, with the exception of jalapeño halves stuffed with crab. Got to try it if you see it, yummy,,
