Hotshots Memorial ~ Sloan ~ Skunk ~ Madrone ~ Bean Salads

Good 66º cloudy morning. Yesterday we topped at 99.1º  while over the mountain in Grants Pass they swam in 104º. Don't know what today will be..... weather folks were wrong about the thunder showers, they were south and east of us.

I found this article and it describes the firefighters .. their hopes/dreams, personality, etc. Moving. May they all RIP!

Historically this date....
1890Idaho is admitted as the 43rd U.S. state.

1969 – The biggest explosion in the history of rocketry occurs when the Soviet N-1 rocket explodes and subsequently destroys its launchpad.

1979U.S. President Jimmy Carter signs the first directive for secret aid to the opponents of the pro-Soviet regime in Kabul.

1994 – The deadliest day in Texas traffic history, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Forty-six people are killed in crashes.

And births this date include...
1947Dave Barry, American comedian and author

1956 – Montel Williams, American actor and talk show host

1958 – Aaron Tippin, American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer

1962Tom Cruise, American actor, writer, director, and producer

1962 – Thomas Gibson, American actor

...and today is my nephew Jimmy's son's birthday... Sloan Plumbridge is 20 years old!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY SLOAN!

Today is the Law Enforcement/Fire Luncheon at the Grants Pass Golf Course. Barbecue, salad and sides buffet, sitting on the veranda and sipping wine!

Thought I'd use this for the PICTURE of the day...
works for me!!!

Yesterday was just one of those, stay in, keep AC on, pay bills, straighten out check book, toss out stuff, clean off desk, don't cook....too hot days. COME ON FALL!!! (I know, too early to hope for that!)  I watched a skunk as he made his way through the pasture. Hoping he wasn't coming this way.
The local coyote wasn't around. Saw him a couple days ago and he was limping. Back foot something wrong with it... Always sad to see a critter hurt and you can't do anything to help.

Here is a tree called a Madrone. The wood is super hard and makes for great fireplace burning...hours for a log. Also Jerry said they make great gun stocks. The red bark flakes off in the Spring and Summer leaving it smooth and cool to the touch. I was on a tour in Napa and the tour guide said they call them the Refrigerator Trees, because how cool they feel.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

The Hotshots tragedy really struck a chord with me. I spent a lot of my night crying over the loss :( How terrible.

Yes, Dom, so so sad. Heroes all. They even fought a fire here in Oregon!

The bean salads look leap off the page and into the mouth delicious.

I have been so sad over the firefighters. Heroes shouldn't have to die. At least not so young.

Going to put up my "We will not forget" flags before it gets any hotter.
