Computer/Costco/Cash&Carry/Doc ~ Cyndi ~ Coffee Filters ~ Cherry Pie

Good 30º frozen morning. No snow, but rain and possibly snow today, tomorrow, and Friday.

Yesterday with the snow I waited later to go to GP and take the computer. OMG, Turk was hip deep to a tall Indian in computer repair! He had one on his lap, all apart, working away and SMILING! A man who really loves his work! Then instead of doing that early and coming back home before going to Medford I went straight to Costco. Success, as they had the chicken jerky that Maggs loves so much. Then a visit to Cash & Carry. Tabasco has a yummy garlic flavor, got some, and chicken gravy mix. Then to the rheumatologist doc. He said I'm good, all tests look great, he said "you will live to be 100"!! Whaaaaaa???? Thank goodness I have Long Term Care insurance! He wants to see me back in 12 months!

The snow was pretty much melted off by 11am. Patty said it had started raining/snowing at the coast yesterday morning. Got a note from Chief Bud Hansen, aka "Uncle Bud",  (ret LASD) that he had been on our summit back in 1991 and he in his brand new pick up truck were the 28th vehicle in a pileup on the mountain. So much for the new truck. Fortunately he was not injured.

Today is a special birthday... Cyndi Moreno, ret from LASD and wife of Pete, LASD ret, is celebrating.

Ha ha ha... Cyndi is cute. She's telling me "Don't take my picture!" This was on our cruise from San Francisco to Vancouver in 2007. HAPPY BIRTHDAY GIRL!

Historically this date.......
..... and now due to poor management and the internet Al Gore invented, it's in the toilet. You can see it at our local office, lack of interest and caring by the employees. "The average annual federal workers compensation in 2008, including pay plus benefits, was $119,982 compared to just $59,909 for the private sector according to the United States Bureau of Economic Analysis" ... COME ON PEOPLE, show some enthusiasm and get the GD mail out on time!!!!

This from last Feb 20th blog, but worth repeating....

Received this from Charline Allen (ret LASD) .. some really good information here. Gonna try them all! Thanks Char!https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhjGL4omhRVLMhOAX5cOBmYuUiGrX1tYfrhwU4cS9Fra6ybobnIg4_Z7dhgXHSaBp7pgp6RPg-G9GSHhrGk8fnjmrhHQW_pTr8qfsYx6g0d5NgX9z4QMyXzmWSqfSbnBzU15RHJDcibVMA/s1600/ATT00001MA28945943-0003.jpg

COFFEE FILTERSCoffee filters .... Who knew! And you can buy 1,000 at the Dollar Tree for almost nothing even the large ones.
1. Cover bowls or dishes when cooking in the microwave. Coffee filters make excellent covers.
2. Clean windows, mirrors, and chrome... Coffee filters are lint-free so they'll leave windows sparkling.
3. Protect China by separating your good dishes with a coffee filter between each dish.
4. Filter broken cork from wine. If you break the cork when opening a wine bottle, filter the wine through a coffee filter.
5. Protect a cast-iron skillet. Place a coffee filter in the skillet to absorb moisture and prevent rust.
6. Apply shoe polish. Ball up a lint-free coffee filter.
7. Recycle frying oil. After frying, strain oil through a sieve lined with a coffee filter.
8. Weigh chopped foods. Place chopped ingredients in a coffee filter on a kitchen scale.
9. Hold tacos. Coffee filters make convenient wrappers for messy foods.
10. Stop the soil from leaking out of a plant pot. Line a plant pot with a coffee filter to prevent the soil from going through the drainage holes.
11. Prevent a Popsicle from dripping. Poke one or two holes as needed in a coffee filter.
12. Do you think we used expensive strips to wax eyebrows? Use strips of coffee filters.
13. Put a few in a plate and put your fried bacon, French fries, chicken fingers, etc on them. It soaks out all the grease.
14. Keep in the bathroom. They make great "razor nick fixers."
15. As a sewing backing. Use a filter as an easy-to-tear backing for embroidering or appliqueing soft fabrics.
16. Put baking soda into a coffee filter and insert into shoes or a closet to absorb or prevent odors.
17. Use them to strain soup stock and to tie fresh herbs in to put in soups and stews.
18. Use a coffee filter to prevent spilling when you add fluids to your car.
19. Use them as a spoon rest while cooking and clean up small counter spills.
20. Can use to hold dry ingredients when baking or when cutting a piece of fruit or veggies.. Saves on having extra bowls to wash.
21. Use them to wrap Christmas ornaments for storage.
22. Use them to remove fingernail polish when out of cotton balls.
23. Use them to sprout seeds. Simply dampen the coffee filter, place seeds inside, fold it and place it into a plastic baggie until they sprout.
24. Use coffee filters as blotting paper for pressed flowers. Place the flowers between two coffee filters and put the coffee filters in phone book..
25. Use as a disposable "snack bowl" for popcorn, chips, etc.
OH YEAH THEY ARE GREAT TO USE IN YOUR COFFEE MAKERS TOO.

All I know. Catch up day here again. Working on a new recipe for dinner. Stuffed baked chicken breast rolls. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

February 20th
National Cherry Pie Day
I was thinking about making a cherry crisp today too....
.... or a cherry dump... add can of cherry pie filling to 9x9 pan and a small can of pineapple chunks if you like, add about 1/2 yellow cake mix sprinkled over the top, melt stick of butter and pour over top, add walnuts or pecans if you like, bake 350 for about an hour.

Great post. Thanks for sharing about Penske. Since we are what we read- LOVE stories of good people who do well in business. That's the only brand of social justice worth reading.

Sue,

Daryl worked for Penske too.

Oh that cherry pie/crisp looks yummy. Nothing like having it warm with vanilla ice cream!

I wonder why we don't see Sandy Duncan in anything anymore. She was so adorable. I guess I'll go back and read the kink about her.

XOXO Trisha
p.s. Thank for asking but feel worse today after coughing all night.

Yes, Mr. Penske had gone out of his way to do a lot for people. So sorry you are still so sick T. Your family has had it so bad this year. I hope you will feel better real soon. xoxoxoxo
