Linda ~ Daddy ~ LA Pursuit ~ Charlean ~ JoAnn Joe Jeannie and Bill ~ Peanuts

Good 47º somewhat sparse baby cloudy morning. (Huh?)

I feel badly, I left Linda Rhorbaugh off my special birthday people yesterday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY LINDA!! Linda is friends with Jon Harting (Wilson '64), who bought Jerry's John Deere Tractor a couple years ago. Here she is back in Sunny So Cal on Jon's Deere (!)......

My Dad, Leslie Laney, died this date in 1991. Miss you Daddy!!! He was born in 1901, lied about his age, and at 16 years old he enlisted in the US Navy, sailed to France during WWI.

Mother and Daddy 1976 on their 50th anniversary.

This is an amazing picture of an amazing creature... A glass winged butterfly....

Historically this date....
1922 – The temperature at 'Aziziya, Libya reaches a world record 57.8 °C (136.0 °F).

1971 – People's Republic of China: Chairman Mao Zedong's second in command and successor Marshal Lin Biao flees the country via plane after the failure of alleged coup against Mao. The plane crashes in Mongolia, killing all aboard.

2001 – Civilian aircraft traffic resumes in the U.S. after the September 11, 2001 attacks.

2008 – Hurricane Ike makes landfall on the Texas Gulf Coast of the United States, causing heavy damage to Galveston Island, Houston and surrounding areas.

And births this date include...
1857 – Milton S. Hershey, American confectioner (d. 1945)

1925Mel Tormé, American singer (d. 1999)

1939 – Richard Kiel, American actor

1944 – Jacqueline Bisset, British actress

1951Jean Smart, American actress

1956 – Anne Geddes, Australian photographer

I had a call from Kristen yesterday morning. There was a pursuit in So Cal of armed robbery suspects. I turned on my Los Angeles NBC channel and watched. They robbed a BofA in Canyon Country, 3 of the 5 bailed in Sylmar, the other two dashed down the 110 to South LA and drove in circles for what seemed like an hour, periodically tossing money out the window (10 times they did this). They were being pursued by a long line of LASD, LAPD, CHP, USC Campus Police, and Park & Rec. EVERYONE was called out to help with the persuit and the recovery of the cash. Finally they were stopped in a traffic jam and taken off to jail. No injuries except for an LAPD officer had his foot run over!

So, yesterday afternoon long-time friend, Charlean (Gottesman) Allen stopped by. She's up here visiting friends. She was a Deputy and worked Temple Station with Jerry. She showed up with her two little pals.... little snuggly loves....

We drank wine and talked and talked. Then we took the dogs to her friend's home in Merlin and headed back to Grants Pass. We had dinner at The Mediterranean. She likes Greek food (and Retsina!
after living in Greece for 4 months.

Shelley was back. She and her husband have sold the restaurant and she's working during the transition. So good to see her!!! Char and I had Moussaka. Awesome. Loved it. Charlie heads back to Hunting Beach in a few days. Good visit!

While we were doing dinner, my other LASD pals Jeannie & Bill Patterson and Joe and JoAnn Kirk were whooping it up at the coast in Depoe Bay at the Sea Hag Restaurant (a favorite of mine!)
(Thanks for sending the picture guys!)

All I know. Happy Thursday. JCRW luncheon today. Best get to gettin'. Ciao.

Wow! You outdid yourself with this blog.

If anyone doubted the power of television- the live response to the car chase with money flying out the suspect's car ought to put that to rest.

No wonder patience is a sleeping virtue. Wish I wasn't shocked by people putting themselves in danger not for a principal, just for the money.

Sue,

I think I've said this before but you sure do look like your dad when he was young.

My father also passed away in 1991.

What a nice visit you had with a visiting friend!

XO Trisha

It made me laugh L, when the newscaster (not a clue broad) said, "Well, you know it is illegal to keep that money since it's part of the crime." DUH... like who, but maybe one or two would turn over the money. The neighborhood emptied out onto the street. Nobody was working? DUH again!!! xo
