Drummer Jack ~ Chicken Salad ~ Homebrew & Orange Juice Day

Good 43º cloudy morning. It rained on and off all day yesterday, very light, but it was WINDY!

Yesterday my grandson Jack was playing for open house. They did the National Anthem and Viva la Vida (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viva_la_Vida ). The 7th & 8th grade band performed before the PTA meeting.
♥♥♥

OMG, you have to see this golden retriever ... amazing dog!
This dog guards the guy's bike and then climbs on and rides.

I had never made chicken salad. Don't know why, probably because Jerry liked tuna salad and his chicken fried ... Anyway, decided to try it. Poached a couple of chicken breasts to start.... then I chopped up some celery, sweet pepper, green onion, grated some ginger, and also added some broccoli slaw...

The best way to preserve fresh ginger is by putting it in a jar and cover it with vodka or gin. It will last forever! Then when you use up the ginger, you will have a very flavorful drink! Yummm.....

Chopped the chicken ....

For the dressing I whisked some BF mayonnaise, Philippe's mustard (famous from Philippes in Los Angeles http://www.philippes.com/ )

a little lemon juice and some sea salt and citrus pepper...... then added some chopped bacon. I topped the salad with a couple chopped hard boiled eggs and fresh flat leaf parsley.

Philippes....
This famous restaurant, French Dip sandwiches to die for.. is across the street from the Terminal Annex Post Office (my Dad worked there!) and down the street from Union Station and Olvera Street. You can get the mustard by mail order.

Yesterday I had to run to Albertson's in Grants Pass. As I approached the entrance, I noticed a driver looking for a parking space. I flagged the driver and pointed out a parking space in the handicap area. The driver looked puzzled. ''I'm not handicapped'' she said. Well, was my face red. ''Oh, sorry about that, I saw your Obama sticker and just thought...''

She gave me the finger and called me some nasty names. Sheesh! Some people are like that... and when you're just trying to help them. :o)

Thanks Tally & Spence for this.....

BO taking credit where credit is only due the participants! Not the self-absorbed ASS taking up space in the White House!

National Orange Juice Day

Here is the 'vintage' hand press Wearever juicer I have used for years. It was my Mom's and patented in 1930. It will press out juice from just any citrus and I used it to juice pomegranates when Charlean and I made pomegranate wine. Works so cool! They are selling on E-bay for $45-$58.

Jack sure is becoming quite the young man. Great picture of him.
Your chicken salad looked great, especially for the first time making it. Looked very healthy and yummy.
Interesting juicer. The "vintage" stuff is the best. Gosh, that stuff seems to last forever!
Did you really point out a parking space for the lady with the Obama sticker? You are a nut. LOL
Have a wonderful day. xo

Thank you for letting us know Phillipe Mustard is available by mail. I am so happy that the company has survived.

I was taught that big parts of graciousness and valor are noting credit where it is due. Our President and his staff show neither in giving proper credit to the people who actually risked their lives to carry out the operation. Seal Team 6 and their troops of intelligence and planning personnel.

Someohow, I don't see a man who can forget to mention he gave away a considerable fortune left by his parents as being so selfish in taking credit. Which is why I support Romney- a return to hard work and dignity as core values.

@ Jeannie... thanks re Jack. He's quite the young man! As for the salad .... It was great!
No, wasn't me that pointed out the handicapped sign, it was a joke sent to me by several folks. LOL

@ Lydia, I agree about Romney and his hard work and ethics. I pray he will win! xo

Sue,
I sat here and LOL at your joke about the lady with the Obama bumper sticker! Figured it was a joke but wasn't sure until I read your response here on comments. It WOULD have been like you to point out a parking space for someone tho. :)
Yes, Jack is a little doll and looks great in the drum line!

Your chicken salad doesn't look like any I have had but OMG does it ever look yummy!!

Love loved loved the video re the Seals and Obama and will post it on my FB page. Yes, I have read Romney's book and was so impressed that he gave away every penny inherited from his father. Gave it to his church and charities. That right there sealed it for me! What character he has!!
I will be working hard for him!

Hugs, Trisha

Sue, loved your presentation of the juice squeezer. I have the same vintage, probably identical to the picture you posted. The subject came up awhile back and it triggered remember I had one from my Mom's house sitting in the cupboard. Have used it several time for the pesky key lime squeezing. :) Your chicken salad looked goooood! Edda
