I am so happy a day to celebrate mayonnaise! I LOVE mayonnaise! Yippppeeeeeeee........................

Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellman's mayonnaise was manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was to be the next port of call for the great ship after it's stop in New York.

This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise ever delivered to Mexico. But, as we know, the great ship did not make it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank, and the cargo was forever lost.

The people of Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting it's delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguis was so great, that they declared a National Day of Mourning, which they still observe to this day.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th. and is known, of course, as Sinko de Mayo.    :o)

Good 34º sunny clear morning. Ice on the barn roof!

Here is an interactive sunrise/moonrise site. You make sure you choose your country, city, time zone and it will tell you sunrise/set times and moonrise/set times. Full one tonight and it will be closer to earth than normal and bigger. Get out those cameras!
You can also change the type of map... satellite, terrain, etc. FUN!

Yesterday Alex (my DirecTV Dennis's friend) was here and picked up all the logs from tree trimming 2 years ago and piled it all by the wood splitter. Splitter won't run, so Dave coming up today to take a look at it. When fixed Alex will be back to split the logs. I mowed until it started raining!

Good News, speaking of mayo.... My pal Jeannie called me from Fred Meyer yesterday morning to tell me that Freddies stocks J&D's Baconnaise! Whoot whoot whoot!!! Now all you folks up here in RR and GP can get some.

Cinco de Mayo... the REAL story...

(Spanish for "fifth of May") is a celebration held on May 5. It is celebrated nationwide in the United States and regionally in Mexico, primarily in the state of Puebla, where the holiday is called El Dia de la Batalla de Puebla (English: The Day of the Battle of Puebla). The date is observed in the United States as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride, and to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy during the first years of the American Civil War.In the state of Puebla, the date is observed to commemorate the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza Seguín. Contrary to widespread popular belief, Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico's Independence Day—the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico—which is actually celebrated on September 16, or as we used to say, the day the new Chevy's came out!

So make some Margaritas, have some rice and beans, guacamole, pick up some tamales... traditional Mexican dishes. Celebrate with our Mexican friends a special day.

Oh, and by the way...

After that sweet note, dinner last night was roasted veggies and I opened a jar of Patty's famous canned albacore with jalapeño. I tossed the veggies (green beans, asparagus, carrots, broccoli) with olive oil, sea salt, pepper, bacon salt (!) and garlic powder... 435º 30 minutes. I put some of the albacore on top and it was DEEEEE-LICIOUS!
