Turkeys/Geese ~ Lazy Stuffed Cabbage ~ Tortilla Chips

Good 26º frozen morning! Wow, it's cold out there!~!!!

Just outside my front yard gate yesterday........

'I'm so pretty.... I'm so pretty .... I'm so pretty and witty and wise.... ' The more effort that goes into the showing off, the bluer the face gets and the redder the waddle gets. "Hey babeeee, look at me!"

And one of the gals was saying, 'Ha ha ha, can't catch me.'

The geese have been showing up at sunrise and sitting atop the barn and honking until I come out and give them a treat.

I noticed yesterday Mr. & Mrs. Mal-lard are back too. So, yesterday morning the geese were on the barn roof and started honking but didn't wait for me to come outside. They flew directly to the 'treat spot'. When I went out there were the ducks also. I guess the geese thought the ducks were getting a treat so they jumped in too. Silly birds.

I've made this several times and it's GOOD!

Lazy Day Stuffed Cabbage

1 head cabbage - chopped

1 cup rice - cooked (about 2 ½ cups when cooked)

1-1 ½ pounds ground pork

1 large onion - chopped

2 cans tomato soup

Brown meat and onion. In a 4 quart casserole layer the cabbage, rice, meat ...alternately 2 or 3 times .. starting and ending with cabbage. Top with undiluted soup that has been mixed smooth in a bowl. Bake 350º for an hour or until hot and cabbage is soft. Serve with mashed potatoes! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..............................

Historically this date...
1863Arizona is organized as a United States territory.

My aunt was born in 1907 in Cananea Mexico when my grandfather was working down there. Later she could have said she was born in Arizona, since it was a Territory and they didn't start keeping birth records until 1912. But, she was honest and became a 'naturalized citizen' in later years, but did grow up in Arizona in Bisbee. My grandparents were still Scottish citizens, not American. He was a mining engineer for the Lavender Pitt copper mine.

1942 – The Battle of Los Angeles, one of the largest documented UFO sightings in history; the event lasted into the early hours of February 26, 1942. Interesting.

1968Vietnam War: The Tet Offensive is halted; South Vietnam recaptures Hué.

1980 – The United States Olympic Hockey team completes their Miracle on Ice by defeating Finland 4-2 to win the gold medal.

1989 – United Airlines Flight 811, bound for New Zealand from Honolulu, Hawaii, rips open during flight, sucking 9 passengers out of the business-class section.

And births this date include...
1921 – Abe Vigoda, American actor

1938James Farentino, American actor (d. 2012)

1940Pete Duel, American actor (d. 1971)

1941Joanie Sommers, American singer and actress

"Voice of the 60's ".... 'Johnny Get Angry'
and here she is in 1999 singing....

1955Steve Jobs, American computer pioneer (d. 2011)

1970 – Kienast quintuplets, American quintuplets

.......no public appearances in years and the father committed suicide in the 80's.

The nicest thing... there is a comment on yesterday's blog from Rich Hellner, owner of Pandora Spirits, who distributes the Nutliquor ... peanut butter vodka! We'll toast you Rich, on our first taste of Nutliquor!!!
All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.

February 24th
National Tortilla Chip Day

Did you know? The corn chip recipe was brought to the U.S. from Mexico by Texas businessman Elmer Doolin.

Doolin started the Frito Company in 1932....

OMG, you are right. Farentino does look like Regis! Weird.

I think you will really like the cabbage dish. The pork and the tomato soup are really a tasty addition. I don't care for stuffed cabbage with ground beef.
