Winter Solstice ~ Leak ~ Prime Rib ~ Date Nut Bread Day

Good 18º morning!!!! YUCK.

Today is the Winter Solstice.... The shortest day of the year.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Got the following story from Lynn Helbing...
During the Christmas service the preacher said, "Anyone with 'special needs' who wants to be prayed over, please come forward to the front by the altar."
With that, Tyrone got in line. When it was his turn, the preacher asked, "Tyrone, what do you want me to pray about for you?"
Tyrone replied, "Preacher, I need you to pray for help with my hearing."
The preacher put one finger of one hand in Tyrone's ear, placed his other hand on top of Tyrone's head, and then prayed and prayed and prayed. He prayed a "blue streak" for Tyrone, and the whole congregation joined in with great enthusiasm.
After a few minutes, the preacher removed his hands, stood back and asked, "Tyrone, how is your hearing now?"
Tyrone answered, "I don't know, Man. It ain't 'til next week.
Yesterday a young friend and his brother came by to look at and measure one of Jerry's leather working machines.
 It's called a "clicker". It stamps out leather pieces, like the ones Jerry made holsters with using metal dies. I gave it to Tim a while back and he's just not had the place for it yet. It's HUGE and HEAVY, so it's logistical.
It's a good thing Tim and Aaron showed up to see the machine as I found a broken water pipe in the barn! DANG! As I tell Brian frequently, "If it isn't one thing... it's your Mother!" <g> Anyway, I called Big Dave because when the hot water pipe broke a couple years ago and the barn was ankle deep in water, he found the shutoff for the barn water. We kept the cold in use, but the pipe, again, broke in the wall. Fortunately it was running very s-l-o-w and the drain was unclogged (thanks to Big D when the first pipe dumped) and there was just some minor water. So for now, no water to the barn. I will have to call the plumber this summer to get this all fixed. Groan...................
Last evening was the Law Enforcement/Fire Christmas Dinner at the Grants Pass Golf Club. I had called ahead to make sure we had a big table for our LASD group, as last year all they had were a couple of tables for 8 which were taken over by LAPD and a bunch of tables for 4. So they fixed us up with one for 14. I made a sign....
Dinner was prime rib and chicken marsala. I opted for the prime rib (sooooo good) and mashed potatoes. It was great!
I didn't want any of the fu-fu vegetables or salad.... just meat and potatoes please!
Our group consisted of Bill & Jeannie Patterson, Joe & Jo Ann Kirk, Rufus & Maxie Horn, Dale & Dee Yellin, Bob & Candy Havercroft, and Jon & Jean Ainsworth (Simi Valley PD)
(Ok Candy and Bob, quit talking and turn around!)
We had a great time visiting and I got home at 8:30. It was cold, very cold, by then.... 28º and all of our cars in the parking lot had a layer of ice on them. Built a fire in the wood stove and fell asleep in my chair! Ahhhhh.......
Today Sandy (Todoran-Kraut-Beck)'s son, Matthew is turning the big 34. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MATT!!!
Historically this date.....
A bunch of stuff happened, but not a lot of interest in it by me.
2001 – Richard Reid attempts to destroy a passenger airliner by igniting explosives hidden in his shoes aboard American Airlines Flight 63.
2010 – The repeal of the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy, the 17-year-old policy banning on homosexuals serving openly in the United States military, is signed into law by President Barack Obama.
And births this date include....
1936 – Hector Elizondo, American actor
1945Diane Sawyer, American journalist
1948 – Steve Garvey, American baseball player
OMG.... "Mr. Clean" became Mr. LayMultipleWomenandHaveChildrenWithAllofThem!! What a story.
1949Maurice Gibb, English musician (The Bee Gees) (d. 2003)
1949 – Robin Gibb, English musician (The Bee Gees)
All I know. Nuff said. Ciao.
Sue,
I was always under the impression that Dec. 21 was the shortest day of the year. I guess it changes with the year?
Sorry about your broken pipe in the barn. You are soooooo right! If it's not one thing for a homeowner it's another! ALWAYS something to spend $$$ on to get fixed!
Your gathering last night looked and sounded like so much fun! Amazes me at how many have retired up there.
Ahhhh the Beegees! My all time fav singing group! LOVE those guys! Didn't know those two were twins! So Andy and Maurice are gone. Such a shame.
Have a great day and stay warm! Hope your cold has left you by now! brrrrrr
Hugs, Trisha
Yes, T, Oregon retirement has a lot of perks... lower taxes, fewer taxes, less restrictive gun laws, clean air, less traffic, less crime, open spaces, critters, nice people!
And yes, thanks, the cold is pretty much wrapped up. Yeah! xo
