Zip Lock Bag Hacks ~ Wrong Day History & Births ~ Schwans Order ~ Super Bird of Paradise ~ Asparagus Bacon Popover

Good 52º clear sunny morning. Topped at 89º yesterday.

Here is some interesting hacks using zip lock freezer bags...
Under each numbered section there is a blue " here " Click on that for the video of how to...

Breakfast was a couple mini scrambles with ricotta cheese, some cottage cheese topped with steamed peeled baby beets.

These beets are a product of France. They come in an airless bag ready to eat. Really good.

I looked them up on line at www.melissas.com and they sell them for $11.79 and I buy them at Safeway for $3.49!!! Yikes.

Leon (whose high school pal is the new Sheriff of Jackson County!)  of Schwans brought my newest order yesterday. That was 2 packages of garlic herb shrimp (each pkg serves 4)

And a 2 pound bag of Mediterranean Blend vegetables... that can be heated/steamed in the microwave.

I am thinking of a pasta dish with the shrimp and a few other things.

This bird is so interesting..
Watching a Superb Bird-of-Paradise dance is like watching a creature from another planet. It transforms into the shape of a “psychedelic smiley face” as it bounces around to impress a female. On a recent expedition to the Arfak Mountains of New Guinea, Ed Scholes and Tim Laman captured photographic and video documentation that, along with recent DNA evidence from other researchers, suggests the discovery of a new species of Super Bird-of-Paradise!

So, dinner was the Asparagus Bacon Popover I posted on July 17th....
Assembled most ingredients.... asparagus, leek, bacon, butter, flour, cheese, eggs (have to be room temp as well as the milk has to be warm)

Then I cooked the bacon... and asparagus (patted it dry)....

The bacon was drained on paper towels and the leek was added to the bacon fat in the pan to cook for a few minutes til tender, then removed. Butter added to the pan to melt.
The flour, milk, eggs, salt and pepper were mixed well and poured into the pan. Then topped with the asparagus, bacon, leek, and cheese....

Baked in 425º oven for 30 minutes....

It didn't come out of the pan as nice as on the recipe, but that's ok. I served it with some plain yogurt. REALLY GOOD!!!!

Watched Animal Cops Phoenix, Family Feud, and Cops Reloaded.

All I know. Nuff said. Happy Hump Day. Ciao.

July 19th
Also........... today National Daiquiri Day, not yesterday! Geeeeeze............. So, yesterday was National Caviar Day:

Five Food Finds about Caviar:

  1. True caviar comes from the icy waters of the Caspian Sea where the environment is most conducive to producing the finest sturgeon.
  2. Today with sturgeon facing extinction caviar will remain a delicacy and very expensive.
  3. The United States imports approximately sixty percent of the total world caviar supply.
  4. Caviar is full of proteins, vitamins, low in calories and thus is a complete meal by itself.
  5. Caviar is being given to patients after surgery to aid their recovery.
